I bought pathfinder package with Origin 315p in it.
Tractor beam and TR4 engine already fitted so no need to upgrade. We'll see about possible radars/scanners for exploration, but I like this 'mercedes' explorer so far.

I went for the same option, will have to wait and see how the 315p fares and what the return range is on a "full tank o' gas" though, may have to take on some early "grinding" to get a hold of a longer ranged vessel, but we will see!
I do like the idea of travelling the 'verse in style though,

It suppose to have elite-class engine. If I manage to upgrade engine intakes and with 2 more engine modifiers, range should not be the issue. I just don't know what to mount on 2 empty class 3 hardpoints. I hope there will be some specialized mounting scanners.

Yes, I think that's a great ship for exploring. It was a close call but I choosed the Freelancer instead. I hope it was a goog choice. Cause I'm going for long range exploration.

Looking at the different ships (without there being much in the way of technical data-sheets and the like) I think that given some upgrades the OJ 315p is a great explorer. That being said, perusing through the SC fora today I found this thread: forums.robertsspaceindustries.com/discussion/29708/science-ships#latest...and I love the idea of taking a crew of people out on a massive grand tour expedition with a heavily upgraded ship like the Freelancer or Constellation! I'll be hoping for many... many sensor arrays and similar attachments for hard points and the like (maybe an ARKYD sized telescope or two...
